Writing "Made to Sing to You" was a deeply personal journey for me. It’s not just a song—it’s a reflection of my inner battles, my self-discovery, and ultimately, my appreciation for the unique gifts I’ve been given. This song stems from issues I’ve struggled with for as long as I can remember: self-doubt and comparison.
I’ve always told myself that "comparison is the thief of joy." It’s a phrase I repeat when I find myself spiraling into thoughts of inadequacy. These may sound familiar: "Am I tall enough? Is my smile white enough? Am I muscular enough? Am I manly enough?" When these thoughts creep in, they rob me of the ability to enjoy the here and now pulling me out of the present and preventing me from appreciating all the wonderful things in my life.
When I was writing this song, I thought a lot about the times I've questioned my worth. I’d find myself asking, "What makes me special? What do I have to offer the world?" I’d compare myself to others and focus on what I thought I lacked—whether it was my appearance, my talents, or even my personality. But then, I realized something important: it’s not about what I think I’m missing. It’s about recognizing the unique gifts I’ve been given and finding purpose in them. That shift in perspective helped me see that my value isn’t tied to comparison—it’s tied to embracing who I truly am.
The lyrics of "Made to Sing to You" echo that sentiment. They explore the vulnerability of self-doubt and the joy that comes from realizing your unique purpose. For me, that purpose is clear. I can write songs. I can sing. I can reflect on the emotions and experiences that are in my heart and express them in a way that resonates and brings comfort to others.
How often do we get stuck in our own heads, wondering if we’re enough? Our mind can be cruel, can’t it? We start picking ourselves apart, thinking about what we should change to fit in, to be more “normal.” But the truth is, you don’t have to change yourself in order to be special—you already are.
The blessings you’ve received, the gifts you’ve been given—those are what make you unique. And if you don’t take a moment to appreciate them, you’re not really living. You can spend all the time in the world searching for ways to fit in, to look a certain way, to meet some impossible standard. But the reality is, you already belong. You already have everything you need.
For me, that realization is what "Made to Sing to You" is all about. It’s a reminder to myself and to anyone who listens that we all have something special to offer. You don’t have to change who you are to fit in. You just have to appreciate who you already are.
If you have ever struggled with self-doubt, I'd love to hear your story. Share your thoughts in the comments or listen to "Made to Sing to You" on Spotify or other music platforms.
